RockyVine 2008
Middle School Camp
July 7th - 12th
For: Current 6-8 graders (those who will be going into 7-9 grades during the summer of 2008)
Why So Far Away? Simply put there is not another Catholic Camp in the country like RockyVine. This is a cutting edge Catholic Camp:
The X-Factors:
- 100% Catholic, Built specifically for teens: There are few Catholic Camps for teens, RockyVine is owned and operated by Catholic Camps of America, LLC. The property alone cost 10 million dollars. Another 10 million is being spent adding on to the camp. Every inch of the camp is Catholic from the tabernacle in the chapel to the crucifixes in each room. There are some other Catholic Camps that focus on a large age range; however, this camp will only ever have camps for Middle School through High School age teens.
- Polished / State of the Art: Every inch of the camp is air conditioned, even the gym. Every teen in every cabin will be sleeping in a bed on a mattress not a cot. The food is better than any camp around. RockyVine spends 1/3 of their income on food. While other camps make money on food, RockyVine makes no money on food. Why? The goal of this camp is not to survive or to rough-it. The goal of RockyVine is the gospel. The goal is a transformative faith experience!
- Xtreme: RockyVine is the only Xtreme Catholic Camp. Former president of the US Catholic Conference of Bishops, Wilton Gregory (see TIME magazine’s Person of the Year: People who mattered in 2002) has already let loose on RockyVine’s off-road go cart course. They have mountain biking, mountain boards, kayaking, an Xtreme waterslide, low and high ropes courses, apart from more traditional things like an official whiffel ball field (fenced), softball, sand volleyball, glow-in-the-dark dodgeball, and more.
- Transformative: All the games and toys seem small and almost unnecessary compared to the fact that this is a week-long LUKE 18 retreat experience. Our other youth ministry retreats / events will never be able to have the same opportunity for real transformation that this camp will. Furthermore, the middle schoolers aren’t being sent as individuals, but as a group from Holy Name. We go together, we bring back our transformation together.
