Band lessons are available for children in Grades 4, 5, and 6 who wish
to enroll. Attendance is very important, as many people depend on each
child's participation. If your child will be unavoidably absent for any
performance or rehearsal, he/she must have an excuse note from a parent prior to that day.

I am the band director at Holy Name of Jesus School and have been teaching here since 1994.
Joining the Band is optional for students in grades 4, 5
and 6. We currently have a Beginning and an Advanced Band. These
students perform twice a year at the combined concerts and are
sometimes invited to play at the student Masses. I believe that a
musical education is very valuable for young children as it not only
teaches discipline and team work but hones the major learning styles at
the same time. It enlightens the students and adds self confidence in a
wonderful way.
I come from a long line of musicians. My father was my
band director! Maybe that is why I found it easy to learn to play all
the band instruments before I left high school. While in High School, I
was also involved in choir and later formed my own Barbershop Quartet.
My BA in music education was earned at the College of
St. Benedict. While at St. Ben's, I majored on the oboe and played in
several orchestras and small groups. I met my husband there as he is a
"Johnny" and now the band director at Benilde-St. Margaret's School. We
have four children in our family, each of which decided to play a
musical instrument: French Horn, Trombone, Percussion and Tuba!
One of my favorite hobbies outside of music is to take
photos. I am a part of the yearbook committee, taking photos and
designing various pages in the yearbook during the school year. If you
can't find me giving lessons in my office you may see me in church
singing with my husband's Contemporary Choir on the weekends.

Students will receive weekly small group lessons during
school. Each lesson will be 20 minutes long. Students are responsible
for his/her own instrument and music, prompt arrival at lessons, as
well as make-up of school work missed during the lessons. Yellow slips
will be issued to those students who consistently miss lessons.
Students receive letter grades for band and must meet a
certain proficiency before attending rehearsals in either of the bands.
This will be determined by Mrs. Keefe.
