Winter Blast! 2007 – Information For Parents

General Information: Winter Blast! is a lock-in for all 6-8 graders.  As in years past about twenty different parishes from around the archdiocese will participate.  The Maple Grove Community Center has plenty to offer all through the night: from the ice arena to the swimming pool, we use it all.  In addition to what the community center itself offers, different parishes volunteer many different ministries like a hair salon where your son or daughter may elect to have their hair temporarily dyed for the overnight.  We also rent large blow-up games like the Bungee Run and an obstacle course which cover half of the community center’s gym.  Late in the morning hours Holy Name parishioner Bill Lage DJs what is an incredible dance.  Other activities include a prayer / adoration room and a movie room.

Schedule:

6:15pm Bus Leaves for St. Raphael’s

7:00pm Mass at St. Raphael’s

9:00pm Arrive at the Maple Grove Community Center

5:30am Pickup at the Maple Grove Community Center.

Mass / Rally: Every Year Winter Blast begins with Mass and some form of entertainment.  In years past, we held this portion of the night in the gym of the community center.  However, because Winter Blast! has become so popular, the Community Center no longer has one room that can hold all the participants (save for the ice arena).  For this reason, all the parishes participating will be going to St. Raphael’s in Crystal for Mass.  We will provide buses from Holy Name to St. Raphael’s and from St. Raphael’s to the Community Center.  We will arrive at the Community Center at 9pm.

How Registration Works:  Click on the registration link above.  Fill out the online form and print the results. Turn in your printed registration form along with a check for $35 at Holy Name (you can turn it in at the front desk, drop it in our locked drop box to the right of the front desk, mail it to: Holy Name of Jesus attn: WinterBlast 155 County Road 24 Wayzata, MN 55391, or hand the form into Nate Reinhardt).  Once we have received your form, we will e-mail you a letter that will include expectations for participants, emergency contact info, and list of what to bring.

Times: Holy Name Participants may be dropped off at Holy Name between 6:00pm and 6:15pm on Friday December 14th.  Pick Up is at 5:30 am on December 15th at the Maple Grove Community Center.

FAQs – Why is pickup so early? The Community Center will not let us stay past 5:30 because they need to get ready for their regular Saturday Activities.

Can I come late? No.   This is new this year.  All the parishes have agreed not to let anyone in late because we will be at two different sites and because of security concerns.  To clarify, in the 8 or so years of WinterBlast, we’ve never had a security problem.  This policy exists out of preparation, not as a response to a past incident.

Who’s supervising? Each and every parish including Holy Name will bring one adult chaperone and one high school teen leader for every 8 middle school teens.  In year’s past the ratio for adults to participants was 10 to 1, that means we will need more adults willing to stay up all night. Please consider volunteering.

Things to bring: Casual Clothing, Swimsuit (must be one piece! – no exceptions), Snacks, Quarters (for video games/ vending machines), Ice Skates, Hockey Equipment, Board Games / Playing Cards, Blanket/ Pillow (there will be places to sleep, though sleeping is not required), and an open mind.

Things to leave at home / don’t bring: Cell Phones, mp3 players (iPods), Pagers, Radios, CD players, any gaming device (i.e. Game Boy), TV’s, spaghetti string tops, midriffs, low cut pants, high cut shorts, offensive shirts.  If you have a question about something feel free to ask, but chances are you would be better off just not bringing it.
