Building parish community and awareness through fun and prayer
Holy Name of Jesus is hosting a Fire For Discipleship with Interfaith Outreach to help the homeless and our neighbors in need. This is a variation of our traditional Sleep Out.
Wednesday, Dec. 14, 7 a.m. - midnight
Our Relationship With Interfaith Outreach
Creating opportunities to thrive. These are among the first words one reads on Interfaith Outreach website. The four words describe the mission and purpose of the organization, an organization our parish has a 30+ year relationship with. The passionate staff at Interfaith Outreach responds to emergency situations and provides resources and services to help families move toward stability and positive change. They also work to engage volunteers and partners in service, leadership and capacity building. Not only is Holy Name of Jesus a partner to Interfaith Outreach, but approximately 180 of our own parishioners volunteer for the organization. As a whole, we are dedicated to helping the organization continue to create opportunities so that those in need in our community might thrive.
Two Ways You Can Help Support Interfaith Outreach This December 2016:
1.) Participate in the "Fire for Discipleship"
Families, groups and individuals are challenged to keep the campfire going from 7 a.m. through the night. This “Fire for Discipleship” will bring attention to our neighbors in need and serve as a reminder for us to love our neighbors as Christ has loved us.
The “Fire for Discipleship” will start immediately after the 6:45 a.m. Mass on Wednesday, Dec. 14 and burn until midnight. Families, individuals and groups may sign up in 1-hour blocks to staff the campfire. Those attending the fire are encouraged to pray and discuss the needs of our community.
At the fire you can expect:
- Prayer intentions to be collected and prayed over
- S'mores to roast and eat
- Hot chocolate
- Multiple parish groups and staff
- Interfaith Outreach staff and board members
- Maybe even song
- Fun for family and friends
if it is cold:
- Shelter near the fire and the Church will be open
- Parking is close and you can warm up in your car
- Coordinate with others to limit time exposed to the cold
Participate in this awesome service - sign up in the gathering space today!
The campfire will be located near the parish office entrance.
2.) Give During the Second Collection
There will also be a second collection for IOCP during the weekend Masses Dec. 11. This second collection will also be available through WeShare Online giving. The direct link is https://hnoj.weshareonline.org/. Or scan the barcode on the back of the prayer card located in the pews.
