Walking Through the Season of Lent

Holy Name of Jesus invites you to enrich your faith through two short studies this Lent: The Search and the Synod at Home.

The Search

The Search Trailer

The Search is an innovative video series or book that tackles the key questions of every human heart. In seven beautifully filmed episodes, Chris Stefanick and experts from multiple fields of science, medicine, psychology, art, and religion examine our place in the larger story of existence.

Whether you’re a practiced inquirer or a jaded skeptic, The Search will speak to you. You may be reassured by some parts, and challenged by others. Either way, you’ll find a lot here to think about.

Are you ready for The Search? If so, engage in The Search in the way that best suits your life.

Synod at Home

Archbishop Hebda Invites You to Join in the Synod at Home

In Lent we often take a good look at our spiritual practices and faith life. This year we want to invite you to use the Synod at Home to review and take some small steps in faith. The Synod at Home is new video series developed by the Archdiocese to aid families in having meaningful discussions about faith and how families live that out.

HNOJ’s own Dave and Megan Rahe as well as Kory and Elise Kutchmarek will appear in the videos! This series was inspired by HNOJ families and ministry and has been adopted by the entire Archdiocese. Very exciting.

Chris Stefanick, a nationally sought after speaker, will introduce each session of the Synod at Home. Stefanick also wrote The Search which we are reading as a parish.

Abstinence and Fasting During Lent

Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years and older.

Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years until age 59. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted as necessary to maintain strength, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.

More information on fasting is available at this United States Conference of Catholic Bishops web page: http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year/lent/catholic-information-on-lenten-fast-and-abstinence.cfm
