Liturgy and Sacraments
The Catholic Mass
The heart of our worship is the Catholic Mass, where people of faith come together to pray, listen to God’s Word, and receive the Eucharist – the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. It is a time of worship, reflection, and community, drawing believers closer to Christ and to one another.

What to Expect at Mass
When you come to Holy Name of Jesus, we want to make sure you have the best worship and fellowship experience possible. Here are a few items that may be of interest to you:
- Nursery During the School Year: Children of all ages are welcome at Mass—indeed, these youngsters recall Jesus’ very words, “Let the children come to me… for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). Our nursery is another option for parents of children ages eight months and up, where children can play and learn about God while parents are celebrating Mass. Our nursery is open during the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday Masses from September to May.
- Low-Gluten Hosts: If you need a low-gluten host, please join the line for the principal celebrant (left center aisle) and inform him as you approach.
- Large Print Worship Aids: Several large print worship aids are available on the table outside the main doors to the worship space for who would like one.
- Hearing Aids: If you have difficulty hearing the Mass, you can request a hearing aid at our front desk, immediately to the right as you enter through our church’s main doors.
- Coffee and Donuts: After our 8:30 and 10:30 am Masses, we invite you to come to the Good Samaritan Center (across from the worship space) and enjoy coffee, donuts and great conversation with others in our community.

Eucharist
The Eucharist, instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper, is at the core of our celebration at every Mass. Jesus truly becomes the Body and Blood we receive (John 6:51-58). At the Last Supper, when He shared His Body and Blood with the disciples, Jesus said, “Do this in memory of me.” We continue this command through Holy Communion.
First Eucharist at Holy Name of Jesus for Children
Please visit the Youth Faith Formation page for information and registration for the First Sacraments program for elementary students.
If you have any questions, please contact Chris Kostelc at 763-745-3489.
First Eucharist at Holy Name of Jesus for Adults
Adults wishing to receive First Eucharist may participate in the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) program.
Baptism
It is the tradition of the Church to celebrate Baptisms on Sunday. Baptism is the first of the Sacraments of Initiation and has the most symbols associated with it (name, cross, white garment, candle, chrism, water, Litany of the Saints, Word of God, Creed, etc.). The Church encourages us to celebrate Baptism with the community rather than privately. For this reason, we schedule Baptisms on the weekend after Mass.
Baptism Schedule:
Baptisms are typically scheduled on two Sundays each month following Mass. They are not scheduled on Easter Sunday or Pentecost.
Exact available dates are shown in the registration form and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If a date no longer appears in the form, it has reached capacity.
If you have specific scheduling needs due to unusual circumstances, please contact the parish office.
Godparent Requirements:
- At least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic, male or female.
- No more than two godparents, one male and one female.
- A non-Catholic participant may serve as a witness and will be noted as such in the records.
Baptism Preparation Gathering:
Parents who plan to baptize their child at Holy Name of Jesus Parish are invited to attend a preparation gathering before the celebration. At this session, you will learn about the meaning of Baptism, review the Rite, and have your questions answered. Both parents are encouraged to attend, though we understand if this is not possible. Children are welcome, and our deacon and priests are always glad to meet them.
If you have attended a preparation gathering in the last five years at Holy Name of Jesus Parish or another Catholic parish, you do not need to attend again. Preparation gatherings are typically held once a month on Tuesday evenings from 6:30–7:45 pm. Exact dates are listed in the registration form.
2025-2026 Baptism Dates:
Dates are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a date is no longer listed in the registration form that means it is full.

About Confession
As a result of Original Sin, our human nature is weakened. Although Baptism removes Original Sin, our inclination to sin remains. Forgiveness is essential for every person who desires to grow closer to Christ. Like the prodigal son, we are called to return to God and acknowledge our sins with true sorrow.
Jesus gave us the Sacrament of Confession when He said to the Apostles: “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (Jn 20:22-23).
This authority has been passed down through the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Confession is the ordinary means of forgiveness for mortal sins committed after Baptism.
Reconciliation FAQ
How do I make a good confession?
- Before confession: Examine your conscience.
- During confession: State your sins humbly and clearly.
- After confession: Pray your penance and resolve to avoid sin in the future.
What do I need to confess?
All mortal sins must be confessed. A sin is mortal if it is:
- Grave (serious matter)
- Committed with full knowledge
- Done with deliberate consent
Venial sins do not need to be confessed, but doing so is spiritually beneficial.
Is confession really private?
Yes. The seal of confession is absolute. The priest is never permitted to disclose the sins of a penitent.
The Sacrament of Matrimony
Holy Scripture affirms that man and woman were created for one another:
“It is not good that the man should be alone” (Gen 2:18).
“Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh” (Gen 2:24).
“The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, was established by the Creator and given its own special laws. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple as well as to the generation and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1660).
Weddings at Holy Name of Jesus Parish
Couples preparing for marriage should meet with a priest or deacon at least six months before their desired wedding date.
Marriage preparation at Holy Name of Jesus includes:
- Meetings with a priest or deacon
- Completing the Prepare inventory and meeting with a mentor couple
- Attending the Archdiocesan engaged couple retreat
To reserve a wedding date at Holy Name of Jesus, couples must first meet with one of our priests and pay the $200 wedding deposit.

Anointing of the Sick
This Sacrament is available to those who are seriously ill or near death. To set up an appointment, please contact the parish office at 763-473-7901. In case of emergency, call 763-233-0259.
“Christ’s compassion toward the sick and his many healings of every kind of infirmity are a resplendent sign that ‘God has visited his people’ (Lk 7:16) and that the Kingdom of God is close at hand. Jesus has the power not only to heal, but also to forgive sins (Mk 2:5-12). He has come to heal the whole person, soul and body. He is the physician the sick have need of (Mk 2:17). His compassion toward all who suffer goes so far that he identifies himself with them: ‘I was sick and you visited me’ (Mt 25:36). His preferential love for the sick has not ceased through the centuries to draw the very special attention of Christians toward all who suffer in body and soul. It is the source of tireless efforts to comfort them.”
– Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1503
For more information on the importance of this Sacrament, please visit the Archdiocesan website.
For resources from the USCCB, visit the USCCB website on Anointing of the Sick.
Holy Orders
“Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate.”
– Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1536
Call to Holy Orders
The call to priesthood or diaconate is a response to God’s invitation to serve His Church. Discernment is a process of prayer, guidance, and accompaniment. If you feel God may be calling you to serve as a priest or deacon, we encourage you to reach out for conversation and support.
For guidance in discerning a vocation to Holy Orders, please contact the parish office at 763-473-7901.
Adoration Chapel
Eucharistic Adoration is a place of peace in the midst of a hectic world, a time of silence in the midst of ceaseless noise, and a chance for reflection in the midst of daily life. Most of all, it is an opportunity to spend time with Jesus and grow to know Him as a friend. He is a friend who delights simply in time spent with those He loves.
God longs to be close to us. The Eucharist is the miracle of this closeness in our lives. The goal of Adoration is to help us appreciate this miracle more deeply, so we enter into the wonder of the Mass and allow it to transform our lives.
Sign up for an hour each week.
Adoration Times
Our Adoration times are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 9 pm, with a goal of having at least two registered adorers for each hour. If you feel called to come and adore our Eucharistic Lord, signing up for an hour is easy. Just pick the option that works best for you:
- Create an account online at hnoj.weadorehim.com
- Call Cheri Quast at Holy Name of Jesus at 763-745-3486

Know in your heart that the Holy Spirit has drawn you here. Jesus is patiently waiting for you to come before Him so that He may bless you, comfort you, and give you hope. He wants you to have peace in your life and to show you the way to the Father. His invitation is knocking at your heart. Open the door and let Him in.
Come and visit Him in His Blessed Adoration Chapel. Kneel before Him face to face, and you will find peace in your life. Jesus will listen to your pleas, hopes, and desires, and in His divine way He will bless you with grace, courage, strength, and zeal for God’s Word.
How to Begin
Full Hour: To keep the chapel open, each hour must be assigned to adorers. Please consider this generous gift of your time. Jesus leaves no gift unrewarded. If a weekly hour is not possible, you may team up with others by alternating weeks or sharing an hour.
Sub-List: If you are not ready to commit to a regular hour but would like Adoration to be part of your life, you may add your name to the sub list. You will be contacted if someone cannot make their hour.
What if I cannot come for my hour?
The Adoration times allow us to have at least two adorers per hour, so that everyone will have backup. If you are going to have to miss, you can contact your adoration partner(s). But you can also request a substitute at your hour by doing the following:
- Signing in at hnoj.weadorehim.com
- Clicking “My Dashboard”
- Scrolling to “My Commitments”
- Selecting “Request Substitute” for the date(s) you need
Can I still come to Adoration even if I am not signed up for an hour?
Yes! All parishioners are encouraged to pray whenever they can. Whether or not you have a scheduled hour, you are welcome to come and adore Our Lord for as long as your time allows.
What if I want to come to Adoration, but cannot sign up right now?
You are always welcome. We have ensured that Our Lord will always be accompanied. If you would like to come but cannot commit to a scheduled hour, you are welcome to come at your convenience and stay as long as you wish.
