Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Community continues the mission of Jesus through the religious education of children and youth. With the Holy Spirit, we are all disciples of Christ participating in the same lifelong journey to the creator. Assisting parents in their primary role as faith educators, we create an environment in which all ages can grow in understanding and love of God through prayer, service and liturgy.
General Information regarding the Elementary Program:
We use a new curriculum offered by Our Sunday Visitor known as Alive in Christ. Click here to learn more about this curriculum. First through Fourth graders will use this curriculum while Fifth grade will remain on the Call to Faith curriculum also produced by Our Sunday Visitor. Fifth Grade will move to the new curriculum in the fall of 2018. Each Faith Formation student will be given a book to use throughout the year. Our Catechists (teachers) are dedicated volunteers who will give your children faithful presentation of the Church's teaching. We will help stimulate your child's religious imagination so they can learn to think more critically and become better prepared to proclaim and live their faith at home, at school and at play. It is our hope that children who come and participate on Wednesdays will find a community of caring believers here at Holy Name of Jesus, who will help them supplement the teachings they receive from their parents - the primary educators of the Faith.
Wednesday evenings will continue to feature our award-winning Wednesday Fine Dining from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Center. Enjoy a hot meal and check in with your children on what they are learning in Faith Formation. The entrée changes weekly, but staples such as salad, milk, lemonade, optional cheese sandwiches for finicky eaters and yummy desserts are always available; all for a free will offering!
Open Gym will run from 4:15-4:45 p.m. on Wednesdays. We encourage students to spend some time working off their energy in Open Gym before heading to class.
Parish Children's Choir - second through sixth grade
Second through sixth grade students are invited to be involved in our Parish Children's Choir. Choir practice takes place on Wednesdays from 5:45 p.m. to 6:25 p.m. when faith formation classes are in session. Students who wish to be involved can attend 4:45 p.m. classes and will be dismissed from class early to attend choir practice. Those who attend 6:15 p.m. class will be allowed to come to class late in order to participate in choir. There is no additional fee. Children who enjoy expressing themselves through music will benefit greatly from learning the value of sung prayer in our liturgies and the importance of leading music for our congregation. This choir will sing at a Sunday liturgy about once a month during the school year and at the 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass. Register your child for Parish Children's Choir while registering them for faith formation in our online registration form.
