Position Description

Title: Maintenance Assistant

Reports to: Director of Building and Grounds                         

Direct Reports: None   

Provides work direction to: None   

Receives work direction from: Director of Building and Grounds, Pastor, Parish Administrator, Principal,

FLSA: Non-exempt 

Hours: Part-time, 12 months, 5 days per week, 4 hrs/day

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM

Resource person:  The person is a resource for the maintenance department and as such is a resource for employees, volunteers and all ministry areas.

Job Purpose:  The overall purpose of this position is to keep the Holy Name of Jesus campus safe, clean, and prepared for all events.  More specifically, the Maintenance Assistant will evaluate and maintain facility and grounds and will have a hand’s on approach to projects and a willingness to help as needed.  This position will be skilled in general operating procedures for general cleaning and sanitation activities, skilled in the use of power equipment, and able to test and replace parts and components in plumbing, electrical, and heating systems.  The Maintenance Assistant can work unsupervised and take initiative and excel in a dynamic environment.

Representative Responsibilities:

-Work to advance the vision of 21st Century discipleship in conjunction with the mission of the Parish in area maintenance.

*Clean, set up, and maintain the facilities as directed by the Director of Building and Grounds, Pastor, Business Administrator or department heads. 

*Clean and sanitize restrooms, bathrooms using established practices and procedures.

*Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers replace lightbulbs; refill restroom dispensers.

*Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; auto scrubbers, high-pressure washers, vacuums, brooms, mops and squeegees for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc. 

*Disinfect touched surfaces in meeting rooms, church and bathrooms as assigned.

*Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis. 

*Assist other maintenance staff with indoor set-ups, if needed.

*Assist with snow removal – shoveling, snow-blowing, and salting sidewalks as instructed.

*Perform groundskeeping duties such as lawn mowing, trimming and edge work, as assigned.  Trim shrubs and pull weeds; rake and prune the grounds as needed. 

*Review and complete tasks and responsibilities listed on the maintenance task board.

* Check with the Director of Building and Grounds for set ups or tear downs and confirm any other responsibilities for each day.                                                      

 

Other Responsibilities:

*Be present, ready to work and on time for all scheduled hours set by employer.

*Meet all PCYI requirements.

*Always stay on task other than break periods.  Keep socialization with members and staff to an appropriate minimal level.

-Maintain a respectable presentation with clothing and grooming.

-Be courteous and friendly with employees and staff.

-Be flexible and adjust to changing demands.

*Take ownership in the appearance of the facilities – if there’s paper on the floor pick it up, if a window needs cleaning – clean it.

*Obey the policies with respect to punching in and out of the time clock.

*Comply with policies and procedures as outlined in the HNOJ Personnel Policy Handbook.

-Help create a productive environment where there is harmony, good moral and cooperative teamwork.

-Assist and support the administration in implementing policies and rules governing employment law practices, conduct and behavior.

Qualifications:  uBilding maintenance experience helpful, building trade background helpful (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, etc.), commitment to order and cleanliness, patient and upbeat.

Mental Demands: Be able to cope with multiple simultaneous demands, keep track of tasks completed and tasks undone, be able to follow instructions and listen to direction.  The position requires frequent interaction with parishioners, volunteers, and the work is done in the presence of children, therefore, the person must always be able to remain in control of their behavior and maintain an even, calm, disposition.

Physical Demands:  Long hours on your feet, lifting to 50 pounds, must be able to efficiently operate machinery, sweeping, vacuuming, snow removal, and lawn care work.
