Music Ministries

How many sacred works have been composed through the centuries by people deeply imbued with the sense of the mystery! The faith of countless believers has been nourished by melodies flowing from the hearts of other believers, either introduced into the liturgy or used as an aid to dignified worship. In song, faith is experienced as vibrant joy, love and confident expectation of the saving intervention of God" (Pope John Paul II's Letter to Artists, n. 12).

There are so many wonderful opportunities to share your faith through music at Holy Name of Jesus. These opportunities are outlined below. To become involved, please contact the individuals listed below. Contact Judy Hodgson at 763-745-3490 or to learn more.

Holy Name of Jesus Women! Come sing in the next Parish Women’s Choir for 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, April 29! Like previous women’s choral weekends, this is a unique opportunity to experience the special joy that comes with making music together, and you will get to know more outstanding women from our parish. We will be rehearsing for this Mass on Tuesday, April 25 and/or Wednesday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in the HNOJ Music Room. We will also be sending out sound files to help you learn the music, so there’s no excuse not to join in the fun! Everyone’s welcome! Please contact Judy Hodgson, Director of Music, to sign up to participate in this wonderful event at or 763-473-7901.

The Adult Choir leads the music at the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Easter Masses in the church. They are joined by a Brass Quintet. Please consider joining the choir for Easter Sunday, we sing for a packed church and can always use more members that morning. Attend three rehearsals on March 14, 21 and 28 and sing on Easter morning.

Students in fifth grade and older are invited to join our newly formed Youth Handbell Choir. If you have played a musical instrument in band or orchestra, or the piano, or if you have sung in a choir, you would have the basic knowledge to begin ringing bells. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 4:45 – 5:45 p.m.

We have just begun so there is still time to join. Ringing bells is lots of fun, making music in an ensemble is rewarding, and you will be doing it with others that are your age. If you are interested or would like more information please get in touch with Judy Hodgson, Director of Music, at 763-745-3490 or

Our music ministry formed a combined women’s choir last year and again this past fall that was received with great enthusiasm. We would like to do the same with the men of the parish. You do not need to be a member of a choir here at Holy Name of Jesus, you only need to enjoy singing and be able to carry a tune. We will join the voices of our men of HNOJ to sing for the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Feb. 11. We will have two rehearsals the week before and you only need to attend one of the two, either Tuesday, Feb. 6 or Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in singing please contact Judy Hodgson, or 763-745-3490.
