HNOJ Faith Formation COVID-19 Update

HNOJ Faith Formation Families Pre-K through Grade 12,

As many of you are aware, yesterday morning Governor Tim Walz announced the shutdown of all Minnesota schools for a period of time starting Wednesday (March 18) in an effort to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 and to prepare for a longer-term statewide closure. As per our protocol, when schools are closed, Faith Formation programming follows suit. The information below will outline how HNOJ Faith Formation plans to proceed for the next 4 weeks and thereafter.

  • Class on March 22 and the movie party on April 5 are both canceled.
  • Theresa will send an email to parents with materials for the March 22 class, should you want to do formation at home.
  • We will discuss our plans for class after Easter as we monitor the situation.

Regarding First Sacraments:

  • Since our program is already at home, please continue working through your First Communion booklets as planned.
  • Communion Masses are still scheduled as planned, but we will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.

Regarding SH Crew:

  • SH Crew has canceled all non-Confirmation related events and will have online lessons for Confirmation events (March 18 and possibly April 5). We want to continue preparing our teens for Confirmation, since at this point, Confirmation is still scheduled for May 10. Specifics are as follows:
    • March 18: Year 2 Confirmation Meeting – online lesson (email to come from Ashley)
    • March 22: Encounter Sunday is canceled.
    • March 29: Spring Break
    • April 5: First Sunday – prepare for an online lesson (We will continue to evaluate the safest option and Ashley will keep families updated).
    • Year 2 Confirmation Interviews will occur via phone until further notice. Ashley will contact parents via email whose teens have scheduled meetings during this time in order to determine details.
    • Events occurring after April 5 will be reevaluated as we monitor the situation.

We know that the COVID-19 outbreak can lead to much anxiety, confusion, and disappointment at the interruption of life as we know it. And yet, in these times we remember that God holds all of us in His tender care. As Christians, we hold fast to the promise of Christ, that we have no cause for worry, for we have a Father who provides for all our needs (See Matthew 6:25-34). Sometimes that is easier said than done, which is why we stay connected to those we love—even if that means via phone! Be assured that the Faith Formation team of HNOJ is here to support you, pray for you, and walk with you during these trying times.

Peace and blessings,

Chris, Ashley, Elliut, and Theresa
